PC mechanic bugged

Hey, I just got the game after not playing for years, and I was wondering if this is a hug anyone else has had. I went to go play a normal game, then saw I had the vampire mode unlocked. I went to go try it, but on the next screen it locked up. I can click on things, it makes a sound, then does nothing. ESC key gets me out, but now when I try to play as anything, I get to the plague picking screen and then cannot activate ‘continue’.
