How to recover with a very critical family?
Hello everyone. I’m 22F, about to graduate, and unfortunately couldn’t get a job in time (yay job market) and have to stay with my parents for the foreseeable future.
The problem is that my mom is a huge trigger for my BDD. She has BDD herself. I was relentlessly looked at, judged, and shamed for my weight when I was last at home, and im still recovering from the comments she made earlier. I won’t get into the specifics, because they were very cruel comments, but it got so bad to the point where I don’t wear form fitting clothes and look at mirrors anymore.
I am terrified to go back to my mom, but I have to. I want to ask if you guys have any tips and tricks to cut out the noise or focus on recovery and healing when having to stay in an unhealthy environment? I’m trying my hardest to get away and I’m working towards financial independence every day, but I desperately need advice on how to cope with an unavoidable situation like this. How do you tune out this kind of language? How should I distance myself from this kind of thinking while I try and learn to just be content with existing in my body? Thank you guys 💕
