18F was i too impulsive in breaking off the talking stage with 18M?
a bit more than a month ago i began talking to this guy on instagram. normally i wouldn’t engage in an online relationship with a guy i hadn’t met before, but i felt that this was different because he was close with a group of friends i knew very well and he had seen me at a concert while with these friends, but we never met face to face.
while talking to him i felt very confident in his feelings about me, as he was very attentive, talkative and complimentary. i’ve dealt with bad talking stages before where the guy just doesn’t ever confirm his feelings or doesn’t text often which means they weren’t interested in me enough, but with this guy i felt he was different. he genuinely seemed really interested in me and my life, and confessed his feelings for me while i was touring (im a musician) and later his friends confirmed how much he constantly went on about me, saying how interesting, pretty and cool i was.
the slight issue that always bothered me was that he was in my home country which i was currently away from for holiday, and he would moving to the UK (where i was) when i returned to my home. we would both be in the UK for about a month at the same time, but 6 hours apart and neither of us own a car.
from then on it would be long distance for two years until i went to uni (i’ve got a year of school left and im taking a gap year for the music), when j would maybe go to uni in the same city as him but it would be a BIG maybe. i always assumed that we weren’t gonna rlly do anything abt this and mutually end things at the end of summer but he was the one who brought up LDR In the first place.
we’re going to meet up in 2 weeks in the city he lived in for a superheaven concert, since i had a free ticket which i have to him. the day after we organised a date, and we’ve both been looking forward to it.
however, recently he’s been texting less frequently and only at times that suit him, which is for him extremely early in the morning (3am-6am for him, which is 1am to 3 am for me) i wake up considerably more early (6am) than he does so when we talk at night i don’t get a chance to catch up on sleep, while he does. he also texts in between gaming on siege which always bothered me. we used to text a bit more during the day but recently he’s not been replying to messages then.
his parents are argumentative and i suspect going thru a divorce at the moment cuz i couple times he was MIA and explained they had argued. so when this happens, obviously i don’t blame him for texting and we just continue on! but a couple days ago he left me on read for a day, and replied the next saying he was “raking the garden” which is the most awful excuse i’ve heard, because where he lives it’s currently 54 celsius and who rakes the garden for the whole day?? i was annoyed about this but didn’t follow up.
anyways we texted a little yesterday but on and off, and i replied to his messages before i went to bed - he didn’t reply so i slept at 1 am and texted saying i was going to bed. it’s the morning now and he still hasn’t replied. so i sent a voicemail explaining that if he wasn’t going to make enough effort texting (since we don’t see each other in person) i wasn’t going to make an effort in the relationship. i’m so tired of always being the one worrying and chasing when i’m (according to a lot of people) very attractive and talented - which i’m not saying i believe. i know he has issues with his family, but when the excuse is raking the fucking garden that’s where i draw the line. i’ve had to pick him up on this once before when he wasn’t texting during the day, where he was extremely contrite and desperate to continue talking so i relented, but this is the second strike now and it’s been ruining my
peace, not to mention trying to figure out how LDR would work and coming to the conclusion that it wouldn’t was making me sad. i’d rather wait for someone who gives more of a shit about me than stupid video games. anyways so i explained that ina. voicemail and sent it over. i’m quite an impulsive and passionate person who feels deeply so there is a chance i misread the signals and acted too fast, but in reality where was this gonna go? LDR for two years while he’s in uni and me at school, or ending in the summer anyways. maybe he’s come to this conclusion too and is why he was drawing back. but at the start, when he didn’t text for an entire day because he was worried he was too boring (told to me by his friend who said he was stressing and overthinking texting me bc he didn’t want to be boring cuz he had nothing to say abt his day) we agreed to be honest with each other if we’re losing feelings. and if he is, he hasn’t been honest.
tell me honestly, do you think i acted too fast and ended things when we could have had a nice time in a couple weeks, or did i just save myself from another guy who doesn’t care enough?
