(Pictured: My cat “Calico Jax Rackham” who is just as annoying as TADC Jax pretty much every day, and is a ragebaiter herself. Tryna spread dopamine via kitty)

Idk. The point of this is to ultimately get my thoughts down on the series as a whole before I pretty much dip off of TADC subs for good, plus coax people to maybe consider moving on as well. This past month I’ve just felt my mood drop more and more, and I’m starting to think part of that’s because of the show and how it ended and how I’m caught in a sort of thinking-loop. (Posting here bc it feels like a more welcoming space than other subs.)

Overall, I’m just really bummed out. Feeling strung along and like I wasted my time. Which is saying something bc I have plenty of LONG shows that I enjoyed despite meh endings (so many Star Trek shows.) But this one feels different. Like it really could’ve been great. And now that Goose is basically going “Full Rowling” on social media, it’s just more and more frustrating.

Like, if the show was supposed to explore Jax this whole fucking time, why was it straight-up theory baiting? Because it was. Since episode 1. Hell, episode 7 did nothing BUT further emphasize “the mystery” of the circus itself, and the mystery surrounding Caine himself and whether or not he’s evil. The fact that his name’s Caine and he made ABEL is, again, theory baiting that wound up being completely fucking pointless. Why did Kinger emphasize Scratch so much if he literally does fucking NOTHING for not even the plot, but the themes?

Ribbit and Kaufmo practically haunt the narrative the whole time, only for them to literally be nothing more than pillars for Jax’s sob story.

Still literally wondering how the fuck we got everyone’s brain scans, especially if Caine basically caused C&A to fail? Maybe? If Kinger’s fine in the real world and not trapped, how is the circus still running? Wouldn’t he or some other employee just unplug the fucking machine? How did Ragatha, who I’m assuming was inspecting or looking over the C&A building also not unplug the machine? Or at least claim it as some sort of asset. Like that’s at least two people who left a functioning headset in this building that’s been abandoned. It just doesn’t make sense?

“Oh, but this is a character driven show! That’s not the point!”

Okay, cool, again the theory bait didn’t need to be there, then. Because that time could’ve been allocated elsewhere like, oh idk, the fucking characters? And, even then, 5 out of the main 7 were totally shafted in favor for those final 2 (Jax and Caine kinda) when, the entire fucking time, those other characters being fleshed out would’ve done nothing but IMPROVE the writer’s clear prized pets. You can’t have Pomni and Ragatha have an off-screen moment like that and later be like “look, they’re besties now!” That’s not how this fucking works!

And Jax, ugh fucking Jax. Up until the final episode I was curious and optimistic about what her deal was. But, now? It’s just groan-worthy at best, damaging to the show at worst. Again, I’ve also enjoyed shows with “bad people” as the main character. Bojack Horseman, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, etc. But those characters all have one thing Jax truly does not. Like-ability, and a glimmer of humanity. And, no, Jax’s trans-ness is not a replacement for either of those. Episode 9 literally just says “Hey, she’s been an irredeemable asshole since pretty much always and it’s all her fault. Cry for the abuser. She’s lovely, right?\~” when it’s like… no? At first Jax SEEMED like she had that glimmer. But the finale throws it out in favor of fantasy-doors that make her character look worse, and a backstory reveal that shows Jax always was willing to abuse for her own gain. Not only that, it makes previous jokes feel EVEN MORE OFF now than they did before. The maid stuff especially, eugh.

Again, I just feel drug along and burned by Gooseworx’s frankly shitty writing, as being proven by her Tumblr posts. And I’m tired of people white knighting for a woman who could barely write a half-season (ie 10 eps) and flat-out lies all the time. So many people would’ve killed to be in her position, countless indie shows are struggling to even make it off the ground, but she fumbled it big time (guess Jax really is her self-insert, they got that trait in common.) And, honestly, her claims of “burn out” just feel really melodramatic in retrospect. More and more details are coming out showing that she just didn’t know what tf she was doing, and that she lied about other shit, too. And I’m just tired of it all. Idk, after this post I’m giving it like 1-2 more days and then I’m muting every TADC sub. What’s funny is that I never even participated until the finale.

Idk. I leave you with this: Watch Bojack Horseman for a good “asshole” story, and watch Sword Art Online Abridged for a good “trapped in the machine” story. (Also actually funny, unlike Jax.)

I’m done. Final thoughts on TADC.
