Words of encouragement for those going to shows alone

I went alone last year so I just wanted to give a couple affirmations to get solo goers a little excited!

  1. I actually made friends, I added one girl on instagram, you’re very likely to make buddies with the person next to you or near you, if you’re open to that. I know a lot of people can have anxiety and rather not talk, but you have one common interest at the show that usually is a gateway to discussing other interests too, so enjoy that!

  2. Waiting in line/in the pit is long and tiring, but it goes faster than you think. Again, you’ll talk to people, scroll your phone (bring a portable charger please!), look at setlists, observe those sitting filling up, watch the opener. It’ll go so fast, just think of the last time you had to wait for something and how much time passed since then

  3. There’s usually space and emptier areas in the pit near the back, so if you totally freak out or can’t see or get nervous, you can move backwards and still enjoy the show, there’s big screens to show you what’s happening, so you won’t miss anything going further back where needed. The good thing about concerts is (in my opinion) they’re amazing from any seat in the house

  4. Regarding (3), people can be helpful at getting you to safety too

  5. People do solo stuff all the time, go to restaurants, travel around asia, etc, and they have a great time when they focus on their surroundings, so you’re capable of doing the same and having fun!

  6. What a treat to experience something that no one in your immediate life experienced, something only you can look back on and keep to yourself, cry when you want, think of your younger self, reflect on your recovery, it’s a really nice moment that I myself had when I went alone last year (and doing it again this year)

Good luck and have fun!
