Go-to beginner Blurays?

So I just copped a bluray player which nicely upscales my DVDs - thanks to those who helped me a few days ago. I'm now looking at getting a few blurays (preferably cheap after the cost of the player itself) which are "essential" to see the big leap in quality that bluray offers. thanks for any help!
