Looking for Evans family in the Morgantown/Narvon, PA area
Please redirect me to the right place if this isn't it, or feel free to share around if you think it could help.
About me: 29F; born in and never moved from Staffs, UK; British roots in Staffs/Derbyshire, Durham, Sunderland, Llandaff, and Berwick; non-British ancestry includes Welsh-American, Swedish, and French.
I am enquiring about finding familial connections in south-east Pennsylvania, mostly on behalf of my mum but also I personally am curious too. My great-grandmother's (direct maternal line) had a great-granddad who emigrated to Llandaff, Wales from Churchtown, PA; his surname was Evans, first name either David or John, and this move took place most likely in the early 1800s.
My great-grandmother was heavily into genealogy before she passed in 2011, but due to her relying on physical records, details about our American ancestry was hazy until me and my mum discovered services like 23andme and Ancestry. Then, I tentatively traced ancestry to Churchtown, Morgantown, and Radnor, all in southeast PA; part of the Welsh Tract.
Relevant people in my family tree which feel prominent incude: Matthew Davies (1645-1734), William John Davies (1670-1739); Colonel Evan Evans (1717-1765)
I have known about this for a few years now, but this morning me and my mum were talking about it again and told me she was very curious about our American roots. She isn't great with social media stuff so asked me if I could ask around and see if there are any Evanses (or descendants) still in the area who could get in touch and tell us about the family history there and the sort of things our ancestors did. And also possibly why our ancestor may have decided to return to the Fatherland to take up commercial fishing (I suspect Amish/Mennonite displacement and/or job shortages?).
Obviously, it would be better for us to go out to PA ourselves and I would love to one day, but it would be quite the difficult undertaking for us currently, for various reasons. So if we could find a distant cousin pen pal or something of that nature, that would be a lovely compromise.
Thank you very much in advance :)
