American Woodcock: How to find this time of year?
Good morning everyone!
I'm pretty new at birdwatching. I know there's been several posts about this bird in the past (I have googled extensively). My bucket list bird to see is the american woodcock doing its little dance.
Around this time of year, I know they're more elusive and harder to find. I've been on several birdwatching trips (I live in Ontario, Canada) to Point Pelée, McLaughlin Bay, Lynde Shores, Wylie Road/Shrike Road by Carden Alvar and some other spots around Kawartha Lakes. I've tried exploring around dawn and dusk, but so far no luck with this species other than hearing their meeps coming from a private property with a no trespassing sign. Unfortunately that meant I couldn't follow their sound to see them. So I figured I'd ask here where maybe there are better locations!
I'm totally willing to travel to the US to see this bird. Does anyone have any tips or can name some relatively reliable locations where they can be found this time of year?
Thanks!!
