Should I stop expecting anything from this friendship?
I need some honest advice.
A few months ago, I liked a girl and started talking to her. Around February and March, I confessed my feelings, but she told me she only saw me as a good friend. I accepted that because I didn’t want to lose the friendship.
Things actually went well after that. During the summer holidays, there was almost a one-month gap, but I was the one who reached out again. I told her I wasn’t ignoring her and that I genuinely wanted to stay friends. After that, we continued talking normally.
From April to early June, I noticed that I was almost always the one starting conversations. She always replied, and her replies were nice, but they usually came after a long time. She rarely texted first.
On June 9, I decided to stop texting first just to see what would happen. Nothing bad happened between us—the last conversation was completely normal.
My birthday is today (June 27). Before June 9, I mentioned my birthday to her twice, so I thought she might remember and send me a simple birthday message.
Today came, and I didn’t hear anything from her.
I’m not angry with her. I’m just a little disappointed because I realized I had been expecting that one message.
Since June 9, neither of us has texted each other. I’m now wondering if I should just move on and stop expecting anything from this friendship, or if I’m simply overthinking the whole situation.
What would you do if you were in my position?
