Making plans
I(25F) need some advice. I've always had issues with unpredictability. I always hate it when people are late, when we go to a place and there's no parking, or the restaurant is full. As I've grown up, learned to drive myself and do a lot of things alone, I have my own way of managing.
For example, if I'm making plans with another person, I will set a time. Let's say 10AM. I will check maps to see the estimated time it takes to travel there. If we are going to a restaurant - somewhere I've never been, I'll look at the menu, call to ask about parking and make a reservation if needed.
The thing is, my parents are the total opposite of this. I am going to be out with them for the first half of the morning for elections in our city. But after that will need to go to a salon and then dinner plans with a friend where I'll have to pick up cake and flowers. I have asked them three times for the time we're leaving to go to the elections, but I have been met with "I'll let you know later". It is pissing me off, because I need to book the slot at the salon, and plan accordingly.
It's happened many times in the past. When I was in university, sometimes, they'd text me the day of, let me know that they're stopping by in 3 hours (I was in medical school). I try not to avoid meeting up with them because it's a 3 hour drive, but towards the end of my schooling, I had to tell them that it wasn't OK to just drop by whenever they wanted, because I had to adjust a lot of things abruptly.
I am just wondering if I am a control freak? If any of your parents did the same - never planned anything, didn't give a damn if you had something planned for yourself? In my defense, I feel like the things I am doing is very mundane and much needed. I remember telling my mom that sometimes the good things in life...just require a phone call to reserve a table...and traveling can be easier to manage if we look it up on Google Maps the night before.
