Why treating hair loss isn't the same as regrowing hair?
One of the most important things to understand about hair loss is that stopping further loss and regrowing hair are not exactly the same goal.
Treating hair loss focuses on preserving the hair you still have. In conditions such as androgenetic alopecia (AGA), early intervention can help slow ongoing follicle miniaturisation and maintain existing density. Protecting current hair is often easier than trying to recover hair that has already been lost.
Hair regrowth, by contrast, involves encouraging miniaturised but still active follicles to produce thicker, healthier hair. Different treatments support these goals in different ways. Oral Finasteride works by reducing the effects of DHT and is primarily used to slow or stabilise AGA progression, while topical Minoxidil may help improve hair density and thickness by extending the growth phase of the hair cycle. Results vary from person to person and should never be considered guaranteed.
It's also important to remember that follicles that have remained inactive for a long time or have undergone permanent damage may have limited potential for recovery. Both Finasteride and Minoxidil should be used under medical supervision, a dermatologist will determine the most appropriate treatment plan for your individual needs. A professional evaluation can help set realistic expectations and create a strategy focused on both preservation and potential regrowth.
