First off I have an existing 9 year old 5.4kw solar system with 1 to 1 net metering with a line side tap. You can see the solar conduit on my roof and running up the side of my house. So my meter is already setup for net metering. According to my Emporia I self consume about 90% of the electricity anyways. Also, CT has recently passed legislation allowing 1200 watts of balcony solar.

Electricity here in CT is 32.24 cents a kwh according to the EIA.

So the last year this simple 1kw system generated 1248 x .32 =$402.35. Will take me only 18 months to reach my return on my investment. There is also currently a large summer rate increase proposed that would bring electricity over .35kwh!

System is 10 100 Watt renogy panels wired in series. Purchased on sale directly from Renogy on ebay for around $400.

5 new in box enphase IQ PD 72 Microinverters. These are new iq7 micros that are designed to replace the old m215 micros. They have a 190 watt max output and are designed for the older 200-230 watt panels. Enphase sells them brand new for $79. I got mine on ebay for $150 for all 5. Its rumored they sell these at cost or a loss as they are used to upgrade the older failing m215s. Same exact technology as other iq7's.

Misc wires, brackets, and electrical stuff $50.

Total cost around $600. I am backfeeding it through my 220 volt socket/subpanel in my garage.

I will also add its pretty incredible how often these panels will clip the 190 watt max output on the micros. I posted a picture of a recent clear sunny day this week showing the panels pretty much maxed out. I remember seeing a YouTube video from Will Prose testing 100 watt panels and the Renogy scored very high

My 1000 watt balcony solar generated $402 in electricity this year!
