Best way to convert USD to GBP?

Hello reddit,

My partner from the United States is planning to visit me in England later this year in December, and I wanted to ask about the best way for them to convert their currency into mine? I've heard banks charge fees for conversions or might not get the best rate, but I wanted to come here to get the collectives advice. Thanks!
