Do "Hmm", "Okay" and "ok" actually mean different things over text?

:chat: Just Chatting

I've noticed that people seem to interpret simple text replies very differently. I am definitely have different meanings for all.

For example:

Hmmmmm – thinking? doubtful? expecting more?

Hmm – processing what you said?

Haan – warm agreement?

Yes – straightforward confirmation?

Okay – understood, conversation moves on?

ok – neutral? low effort? or just someone's texting style?

I've had people reply with just "ok", and it felt cold. But then I know others who use "ok" all the time and don't mean anything by it.

Same with "Hmmmmm"—sometimes it feels like they're unconvinced or want more explanation, while "Okay" feels like they've accepted what you said.

So I'm curious:

Do you think these replies actually carry different meanings?

Do you consciously choose between "Okay" and "ok", or is it just habit?
