Should I take a year out for an internship at GE Vernova?
For context, I have just finished my 3rd year at Imperial College pursuing computer engineering. I am pursuing an integrated masters degree and I have just been offered an internship in my field at a really good company.
The problem is, the internship lasts for a year and requires me to relocate to Northern Ireland. It would mean relocating away from everyone I know into a completely new city. It is exactly in the field I wish to pursue. It would mean missing out on my last year of university with all of my friends and mean graduating alone.
I feel as though I might be completely alone and isolated from all my friends in London, having to complete my fourth year all alone. It feels like too good an opportunity to pass up, but at the sacrifice of everything I have here.
The other option is not taking it and completing my studies, but graduating without that experience. It feels like an incredibly tough decision, but in this job market I think I’d be a fool to miss out on it.
I do not have any other summer internships I can fall back on and I feel this is my only opportunity.
The title for the position is Embedded Systems and Test Engineering.
Some guidance on this issue would be greatly appreciated. If you need any more info on anything, I’d be happy to provide.
Thank you in advance,
