Looking for some really sad book recommendations!

Hi all! I am part of a book club and our July theme is “summertime sadness”. I’m looking for a recommendation for some devastatingly sad books to suggest to the group.

Nothing super long as we only have a month to read and appreciate some of my members also have busy lives and jobs.
