How to ethically buy a new phone?

Hi so my birthday is coming up soon and I think my parents are planning on getting me a new phone but I feel bad about getting a new one because of how the materials are sourced from Congo. I think it would be really hypocritical of me cause I repost and have seen videos about people talking about how you shouldn’t buy new phones directly from companies or something along the lines of those. I hope I’m not coming across as like virtue signaling or being a “performative activist”. I don’t have much control over it cause ultimately my parents will be the ones getting it for me from our phone provider. But I was wondering if there was any way maybe like through my provider that I could get a refurbished phone or something.
