What do you actually do when you find someone's gear on the course?
Found a beatup rangefinder at my local muni last week — what's the etiquette here?
So I finished my round at the local muni and found a rangefinder sitting on a bench near the 14th tee box. No bag nearby, no one around, and the group behind me hadn't come through yet. It's a Bushnell, decent condition but pretty scratched up, clearly wellused.
I turned it in to the pro shop and the guy at the counter kind of shrugged and tossed it in a lost and found bin that honestly looked like a graveyard for forgotten gear. Made me wonder if that was even the right call, or if the course actually tries to reunite stuff with its owners.
It got me thinking about how often this happens and what people actually do. I've heard of guys just pocketing stuff they find, which feels wrong, but I also get the sense that lost and found bins at busy munis are basically a black hole.
Has anyone ever successfully gotten something returned after losing it on a course? Or recovered gear you turned in? Does your home course have a decent system for this, or is it basically finders keepers once it hits that bin?
Curious what people actually do when they find someone's gear out there.
