My new characters & stories aren't as natural as my old ones, any advice?
Hello I'm not sure if this is the right sub-reddit to ask this on since its not really a about writing but it is a story question but if there is a more appropriate sub-reddit to put this on pls inform me so I can move this post.
So I have this story that was built over 4-5 years (S1) with a kinda sci-fi/fantasy genre, my issue with it is that when I made it, it was based on my real life & it has real people in my real life & I don't really feel too good about using fictionalized versions of people in my head for these fictionalized stories so I made a new one set in a high fantasy setting. It has a different map, cities, characters, different magic system, but it has similar enough plot but it't not exactly the same (S2). S1 was made entirely in my head so stories are made pretty subconsciously & I don't really have to think about it. S2 has a massive document since I tried to memorize everything for that story but I just can't especially since it uses a different map but there are still scenarios that I make in my head but they are more intentional than S1.
My main issue is that I can't get S2 stories to come to me as as S1 even when I make situations extremely similar to S1 in S2 I'm still doing it intentionally & I'm not having as much fun as when compared to S1. I feel its because of my characters since they might not be as fleshed out as the ones from S1 since S2 is around a year or 2 old if not less. I would like to ask for help on how to have S2 be as subconscious as S1 or how to focus more on S2 rather than S1 to develop the characters. Because every time I think of making a story with the intent of maybe fleshing out the characters more I get stuck & end up repeating the same senario over & over without any development.
Tysm in advance to anyone who responds to this
