am i playing the game wrong?

this is my first ever save and i'm on year 3 and i don't even have a deluxe barn, i haven't completed the community center, i haven't unlocked ginger island, i make 6k per ingame day, etc. am i doing something wrong? because i see people who have unlocked way more before year 3
