I’m tired of everyone enabling my mom’s behavior
I live with my parents and my sister, and our whole family revolves around my mom’s moods. She always has to be right, wants to be in control of everything, and will start arguments over the smallest things. My dad and my sister keep telling me that the best way to deal with her is to just let her have her way because it’s “easier than arguing.”
I can understand why they think that, but the problem is that my dad has basically become a doormat. He does whatever she wants just to avoid making her angry.
The thing is, it doesn’t even work. She still blames him for everything that goes wrong, even the smallest things. For example, she’ll get mad because he bought the “wrong” item at the grocery store.
Whenever I speak up and say that this isn’t normal and that my mom’s behavior is destroying our family, I’m the one who’s called immature or accused of always wanting to be right. But that’s not what I want at all. I just want everyone to be able to live in peace.
They seem to believe that constantly giving in to her is the only way to keep the peace, like you would with a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. But that’s exactly the problem: if you always give a spoiled child whatever they want, they just become even more entitled and demanding. That’s exactly what I feel has happened in my family.
