Below is an exhaustive analytical report and a detailed narrative transcript of the interview with Sunder and Maya Iyer, prepared in accordance with the requirements for deep data archiving. The material reveals a unique experience of personal service to Sathya Sai Baba, details of the Avatar's daily life in His private chambers, and a series of supernatural events that shaped the narrators' lives.

**I. From Skepticism to Faith: The Transformation of Sunder Iyer**

The narrative begins with a detailed description of the background of Sunder, who, unlike his future wife, was not born into a family of devotees. His parents practiced orthodox Hinduism, yet they regarded Sathya Sai Baba with extreme suspicion, considering him a "crank". In his youth, Sunder himself was militantly set against religion, believing that the sole purpose of priests was "collecting money". His skepticism was so profound that he described himself as a person "set very negatively".

The turning point occurred by chance when Sunder decided to learn the art of coloring black-and-white photographs at the studio of a man named Saidatta. Working on the images, he did not realize for a long time who was depicted in them, mistaking Sai Baba for a "movie star" or a "big shot" because of his bright silk robe without a single hole. With irony and some shame, Sunder recalls his first thoughts: "it seems this is a very rich saint, he has so many silk robes... and he is always surrounded by many people". Saidatta, showing "great patience," gradually introduced the young man to the teachings, giving him the book *Summer Showers in Brindavan*, which struck Sunder with the simplicity of its thesis: "God is love".

**II. An Ultimatum to God: The Miracle of College Admission**

One of the most dramatic moments in Sunder's life was the situation regarding his admission to Sai Baba's college in Puttaparthi. Having a weak grade of "three-plus" instead of the required "excellent" mark, he effectively had no chance of enrollment. Consumed by anger and despair, Sunder wrote a letter to Sai Baba, which he himself characterizes as "very rude" and "angry". In this text, he issued a direct challenge to God, stating: "Baba, for the first time in my life I am interested in God and spirituality... if you think that for some reason my life can change, I must get into this college... the very moment you take this letter, our relationship will be broken, I don't believe you are God".

In a state of boiling rage, Sunder went out for *darshan*, intending to "look him in the face and say, 'you know what, take it and goodbye'". However, Sai Baba's reaction was disarming. Approaching the young man, Swami began making characteristic movements with his fingers toward the envelope and spoke to him for the first time, asking: "What is this?". When the agitated Sunder began to unintelligibly repeat the name of the faculty ("B.Com, B.Com"), Sai Baba, with divine humor, asked, making everyone around laugh: "What, B.Com, *begom-begom* \[run-run\]?". Notably, Swami did not take the letter that day, thereby mystically preventing the relationship from being broken as demanded by Sunder's ultimatum. Despite the poor grades, the college professor soon informed Sunder: "Whatever faculty you choose, you are accepted".

**III. Service in the Avatar's Chambers: "Prisoner of His Own Love"**

Sunder Iyer received the rarest opportunity to serve as a personal assistant to Sai Baba for two years, observing him "24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year". This experience allowed him to see a side of Swami's life hidden from the public eye, which Sunder describes as the life of a "prisoner". According to him, Sai Baba lived in a tiny room measuring "approximately three by three meters" with four small windows, of which almost always only one was open.

Sunder reveals striking details of Swami's asceticism. Waking up at 4:00 AM, Sai Baba never turned on the light in his bathroom, using a small flashlight instead. The explanation for this was deeply touching: "If he turns on the light, the devotees of Western Prasanthi will be waiting for that moment... they won't sleep, they will get up at 3:00 AM and wait for the opportunity to catch a glimpse of my hair, my face". Thus, Swami sacrificed his own comfort so as not to disturb the devotees' sleep. Sunder emphasizes this state of voluntary confinement: "You could give me 10 million dollars and ask me to lead such a life; I wouldn't manage it, I would go crazy".

**IV. The Miracle of Omniscience and the Sister’s Salvation**

During his very first interview, Sai Baba demonstrated his absolute omniscience to Sunder. Under pressure from Swami, Sunder was forced to ask for something personal and mentioned his sister, who had been "married for 11 years and still had no children". Sai Baba not only confirmed that he knew about the mother's tears and the whole family's suffering but also quoted his mother’s secret prayers addressed to the family deity, Murugan: "Your mother is always crying... 'Muruga, Muruga,' she prays so much".

Swami materialized a packet of *vibhuti* and predicted: "In eight or nine months, she will have a son". Sunder admits that at that moment his faith was weak: "I thought then that nothing would work... I was given *vibhuti* just like everyone else, and it's impossible for this to work". However, an incredible coincidence in timing occurred. On the very morning when Sunder's sister, in despair, prayed to God: "If you are really God, why don't you hear my prayers?", the postman brought her the letter with the *vibhuti* from her brother. Exactly eight months later, she gave birth to a son, which caused Sunder's entire family to "turn 180 degrees" and accept Sai Baba's divinity.

**V. Mystical Reading of Letters: Speed and Knowledge**

While working as an assistant, Sunder often wondered why Swami spent hours reading thousands of letters if he already knew everything. The answer came through a remarkable incident. One day, Sai Baba had Sunder stand nearby while he sifted through trays of letters (150-175 in each) at incredible speed, lightning-fast setting some of them aside. After going through hundreds of envelopes, Swami took a deep breath and said: "All these letters concern money matters, so take them to Kumbarao".

Sunder, deciding to verify this claim, personally opened each of the 40-50 selected letters. He was amazed by what he discovered: "Every envelope in this pile contained money from 11 rupees to ten thousand dollars... in every envelope, there was money, cash, or checks". Sai Baba unerringly identified the contents of the sealed envelopes without even opening them.

**VI. Maya Iyer: From Childhood Revelations to Hospital Work**

Maya Iyer's story has been intertwined with Sai Baba since birth. Her grandmother was a *bhajan* singer in Brindavan, and the whole family was devoted to Swami. Maya's first mystical acquaintance occurred at the age of four in the interview room. When Swami asked the girl what her name was, she replied with a childhood spontaneity that stunned the adults: "As if you don't know". This underscored her innate conviction that Swami knows absolutely everything. In response, Sai Baba called her "Jagat Maya" (the world of illusion) and patted her cheek.

Later, as a student, Maya received the unique opportunity to volunteer at the newly opened Super Specialty Hospital in Puttaparthi. Although she had no medical background (she was a commerce graduate), Maya was sent for a two-month training in Delhi, where her "baptism by fire" began with a friend fainting at the sight of blood. Ultimately, Maya became an assistant in open-heart surgeries. She describes a moment of deep emotional shock when a doctor invited her to touch a living organ: "He called me to him, and as I reached out my hand, I felt how the human heart beats; it was an indescribable experience". Over two years, she participated in approximately 1,500 surgeries, working an exhausting schedule from 7 AM to 2 AM. Sai Baba would sometimes personally come to the operating room, strictly observing hygiene rules by wearing a mask and gown.

**VII. Divine Matchmaking and the Materialization of the Mangala-Sutra**

The love story of Sunder and Maya was entirely directed by Sai Baba. First, Swami turned to Sunder's mother, saying that she "needed to marry off her son," and pointed to a girl working at the hospital. Then he approached Maya at *darshan* and asked her directly in Hindi: "Do you want to get married?". Maya, who knew of the rule not to marry for five years while working at the hospital, initially declined, but Swami insisted.

The wedding took place on September 6, 1992, right in the interview room. When the time for the rite arrived, Sai Baba materialized the *Mangala-sutra* (auspicious thread) for the bride. Sunder describes this process in detail: Swami waved his hand and created not only the golden ornament but also the thread covered in turmeric powder. Swami personally helped Sunder tie the knots around Maya's neck, which was the supreme blessing for their union.

**VIII. Philosophy of the Second Hand and Presence in Spirit**

Concluding his story, Sunder shares a profound lesson he learned when Swami, despite having a cold, still went out to the devotees, hiding his illness. When suggested that he rest, Sai Baba responded with a metaphor about a clock, asking which hand is most important. Hearing the answer "the hour hand," Swami countered: "the second hand... to move the unnecessary hour hand, the second hand must work without stopping... I am the second hand, I will never stop".

Today, Sunder and Maya live in the USA, practicing and teaching yoga through their "AIR" (Daily Integrated Yoga) program. They admit they have not been to Puttaparthi for 15 years, as they feel no need for it. Sunder states that he feels Swami's presence "in all the chirping of birds, in the nature of trees, in the good and the bad". For them, Baba's physical form has evolved into an "inner principle" and a "divine source" that guides them every moment. The only reason they do not wish to return physically is a reluctance to see their eternally active Teacher in a wheelchair, preferring to keep in their memory the image of the tireless "second hand" of the Universe.
