Why isn't Apple's mother dead yet?

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been wondering why Snow White isn't dead yet. In the original story Snow White's mother dies no longer after giving birth to her, and obviously her death is the event that starts the story, as we all know. So does Snow White die after that Apple graduates? But it's strange how it was never brought up in the story, whenever people criticized Apple, she could have said that she's not doing so well either, since her mother is going to die. I know that with every generation the story is a little different, but isn't this a really BIG change?
