Which competitive multiplayer game has the best community?
Bonus points if the game itself isn’t particularly wholesome.
I was getting frustrated last night with finding nice people to play Marathon with and I started thinking about the difficulties with making friends in an online competitive game. Especially now that I’m in my 30s.
Valorant, League, Overwatch, COD, CS, Siege, and many games like those have notoriously toxic communities and if you don’t already have a friend group within them, it can be a struggle to find buddies to play with who are kind or patient.
Of course there are plenty of exceptions and I’m sure it’s a little confirmation bias. I’ve had some incredibly kind games in Val where we also kicked ass, when Marathon was new I’d hear a polite “GG!” almost every time I was bested in a fight, my ranked grind in both Overwatch and Siege were occasionally met with some wonderful teammates and of course Arc Raiders’ had some of the coolest player interactions ever at release.
I’ve played many a high stakes multiplayer game where we were cracking jokes, having fun, and super encouraging to one another. And I swear I played better in part thanks to that comfort.
Many of those cool teammates went on to become real friends. Some I still check in on even if we play different games.
It made me wonder in the vast world of competitive multiplayer games; which one has the most wholesome player base? The most accepting, fun, and welcoming to new comers?
