Gothic 1 Remake: For the millionth time, the problem isn't being OP early!

Discussion

Let me preface by saying, I love this game completely. I have mostly absconded from work since launch and have 240 hours over three playthroughs. Yes the economy and lockpicking can be frustrating, and I understand a lot of people are experiencing bugs that has a tremendous impact on their gameplay. I'm really sorry you're going through that, but I'm hopeful that Alkima will keep on working on it.

So if being OP isn't the problem, then what is? Well, simply put in my not-so-humble opinion, its a lack of powerful mid to late game enemies and dungeons. Yeah, it's that simple. It doesn't matter if you min/max the shit out of chapter 1 and 2, by the end of chapter 3, you've cleared the map already, just by going to all the places the main quest sends you to. Unless you're actively avoiding exploration and every enemy on the map, or not spending your LP, you're going to be OP.

The original had the same problem, and G2/NOTR did as well, albeit to a much lesser extent because it had a lot more content. Especially with the expansion.

And just to be perfectly clear, I'm not trying to piss on Alkima here. I think they did an amazing job, especially in capturing the "feel" of the original. The music and atmosphere, the dialogue, the overall aesthetic, the character models and animations etc. I really felt drawn into the game the same way the originals did. Its exactly what I wanted, and I think most fans of the originals did as well. They even managed to add some new content that integrated seamlessly with the world and original lore. But let's face it, remaking the game true to the original comes with some downsides as well. Of course it would, its a bloody 25 year old game. Game design over the years have evolved too far away from what was considered ground breaking back in 2001. As ground breaking as the original games were. But I imagine Alkima found themselves between a rock and a hard place throughout every game design decision on modernisation. All-in-all, they did a good job.

So then what is the solution? Well first off, it's not nerfs, or even buffs. I swear to god they added an ai script to have enemies wait for long charging spells. But that's a discussion for another time.

What I think they should do is simply add more elite enemies to the world in chapter progressions. Slaughtered all the orcs in their territory going to the focus stone? Well guess what, they noticed and now they've sent a bunch of elite orcs to reinforce it. Go ahead and hit and roll them with your Wolfshredder or whatever the fuck you non-magic peasants use.

"But" I hear you say, "then you'll have even more LP and be even more OP". To which I say, so what? As it stands now, you get all the way to levels 25 to 30 by the end of the game, and you have nothing special to use all that power on in chapter 5 and 6. Nothing in their really challenges you at that point, and there really isn't anything new to spend LP on at that point anyway. So yeah, I say they can deviate a bit from the original and repopulate the world with much difficult enemies in the chapter 4 and 5 progression.

And why not go the full DLC/expansion route? G2 did it with NOTR, and it became a fan favourite. There's tons of unused space within the map that could easily be integrated into the existing map without affecting the lore. I would absolutely give them money to "solve" the mid-late game OP problem this way.

So anyway, this is meant to be a discussion, I'm keen on hearing other's opinions on this.
