Good or bad algorithm idea?

DISCLAIMER, this post is not to complain about YT's algorithm at all.

For a small and budding channel I receive decent views & engagement as it is - but one thing I feel I'm still trying to figure out is my target demographic(s).

I wish YouTube had a way to play a more active role in which demos certain videos were shown to - for example, you upload a new vid, and there's a couple of dropdown menus that would say something like "who do you think this video is for?" and then some options would be gender, age, location, etc.

I don't think it's a good idea to give all the power to the uploader to find their audience manually ofc, the algo exists for a reason. But it could be kind of like the sorting hat in Harry Potter lol. Basically the algo takes your ideas into account, and partially uses that when making final decisions about who to push the video to.

What do you think?
