Bell housing

Just getting back into the trade after being out of it for a few years. Why did manufacturers move away from the bell housing on the condenser and evap coils?

I've been swaging the lineset because I don't want to potentially mess up the ports at the condenser/evap coil.

Any suggestions other than using a zoomlock or are other techs doing the same thing?
