Why Wheezy matters - and must return in Toy Story 6

Wheezy may have had a speaking role in just one Toy Story movie, but his story is one of the most tragic and heart-breaking.

In the second movie, Wheezy had his squeaker broken and was left on the shelf for months all on his own. Wheezy was made to sit there watching the other toys being happy and being played with, while Wheezy sat on his own not being allowed to be part of it, building up dust and becoming really unwell.

It was a cruel act - to make someone be stuck somewhere watching everyone they know be happy and move on with their lives, and be forgotten. It must have been so soul crushing for him.

Its no accident Wheezy chose to hide behind the books - Wheezy couldn't bear the pain of watching everyone being happy while he couldn't be, so he closed himself off from the world.

Until a friend reached out and saved him. In Wheezy's own words, his "pal, Woody".

Woody gave Wheezy so much hope in Toy Story 2 - Woody told Wheezy that he still deserved to be loved despite being broken, still saved him from being sold and gave Wheezy a second chance in leading him to get a new squeaker and playing with the other toys.

A friend reached out for Wheezy in one of the darkest and hardest moments of his life and gave him a second chance. That meant so much.

But then the third movie happened - and Wheezy got sold, for real this time. Woody couldn't save him this time, and disappeared.

From then onwards, Wheezy was never mentioned again. His worst fear came true - he was sold for not being good enough, and his friends forgot him.

Wheezy did nothing to deserve this, he was one of the kindest and most wholesome characters in the whole series.

Despite being left on the shelf and nearly abandoned, he didn't hold a grudge like Lotso did - Wheezy still loved Andy and wanted him to be happy.

And as soon as Woody was sold? Wheezy pushed himself to plead with Buzz and beg "Please Mr Buzz Lightyear, you've just gotta save my pal Woody!"

Despite his asthma caused by the dust and months of being alone, Wheezy didn't have any anger or negative feelings and despite struggling to breathe and move he still pushed himself to plead with Buzz to save his "pal, Woody". That's so selfless and kind of him.

You might think that he's just a movie character and I'm overreacting, but Wheezy ended up suffering the fate he always dreaded in these movies, and he didn't deserve to be forgotten about.

I know why Pixar chose not to bring him back - his voice actor Joe Ranft tragically died and Pixar thought they were honouring him by not recasting him.

But Pixar have had Joe's roles in other movies be voiced by Joe's brother, Jerome Ranft, like Jacques in Finding Dory and Red the Fire Truck in Cars 3. If Disney and Pixar are willing to let Jerome come back to voice characters that his brother once voiced, then then why can't they do that with Wheezy? What did Wheezy do so wrong?

Pixar chose to bring back Bo Pepe for the fourth movie after being sold in the third one, so they could just do the same with Wheezy.

And frankly, Wheezy deserves it the most - loneliness is a horrible and cruel thing for a person to go through. And Wheezy went through it for months.

Wheezy closed himself off from the world while his asthma grew worse, he spent every second of his life in pain and had no one there to help him.

Giving him false hope from Woody saving him just for him to be sold for real in the next movie and forgotten about is so, so cruel.

Wheezy matters, he symbolises so much in these movies and is one of the most wholesome and lovable characters.

I really want to see him return in future movies and hope others do too.

If you feel the same and care about Wheezy, and want to see him come back in future movies, let me in the comments below.

The last time he spoke, he reminded everyone that they would always have a friend in him. But despite the trauma he went through in the second movie and the second chance he had, he didn't have friends anymore.

And that hurts. It really hurts to think of him and remember him knowing that he's out there somewhere, missing Andy and Woody and the rest of the gang.

After all these years, Wheezy matters - and deserves better.
