Named maps suggestion

Just an idea popping up in my head. I am not so good at geography, and when i want add maps ME names the maps in sections i dont know. For instance, Italy, Abruzzen. I have no idea where that is. My suggestion is, name the maps in North,East,South,West. And big areas NE,N,NW,E,CENTER,W,SE,S,SW or a combination of that. (I dont know if its possible)
