What's the Point of a Straight Guy?

I had a handyman who honestly did good work around my house. I took him to the mall and some kids surrounded me. They weren't dangerous or anything but I signaled for him to come over to ask them to leave me alone in Bisaya but he didn't.

Okay...so if I have to fend for myself anyway then what the hell do I need a straight guy for?!
