Every time something like this happens it reminds people why physical media still matters. Sony is removing purchased movies from customer libraries because of licensing, yet we’re constantly told that digital is the future. A future where you pay full price but your purchase can disappear because agreements change doesn’t feel like ownership. It feels like you’re paying for a revocable license instead of owning what you bought.

It’s also why so many people still want GTA 6 on a real physical disc. People don’t want every purchase tied to an online account where access depends on licenses, platform policies, or account status. The broader trend across the industry has many players worried. Companies like Rockstar, EA, Ubisoft, Activision, and Microsoft have all expanded digital ecosystems, subscriptions, and online account integration over the years. For many gamers, that raises a simple question: if everything depends on an account and a company’s terms, do you really own your games, or are you just paying for access until the rules change? Every incident like this makes the argument for buying physical media stronger.
