Almost got my account hijacked by a fake library scammer

Informative

Today, a guy approached me claiming he had Black Myth: Wukong, Forza Horizon 5, and Resident Evil 8. He asked to join my Steam Family group. To check if his library was actually legit before letting him in, I asked for his login credentials to verify his games on my laptop first.

Earlier, he had sent me a screenshot showing a massive library, so I thought he was legit. But the moment I logged into his ID, the library was completely blank. He hadn't spent a single rupee on that account. He was just faking a screenshot to bait his way into my family group to freeload off my games and potentially risk my ID with a VAC ban if he cheated.

I logged out immediately. When I switched back to my main account to confront him, Steam’s automated filter had already slapped a massive red "Suspicious Chat" banner on our window because his account was being flagged for fraud. I instantly reported him for scam/theft and blocked him, after which he panicked, unfriended me, and went offline.

TL;DR / Quick Reassurance: If someone sends you fake screenshots trying to talk their way into your Steam Family, do not trust them. But if you already logged into a shady account like I did, don't panic. As long as you log out immediately, don't link your families, and don't click external links, your PC and main account are 100% safe.

Stay safe out there and don't let random freeloaders into your Steam Families!
