I feel like Secret Wars in particular needs to identify the weirdest and wildest variants these actors could conceivably play and act as a showcase.

Going back to Star Trek's Mirror Mirror, multiverses in sci-fi have been acting talent showcases.

By and large, I feel like Marvel's take has leaned into writers flexing that they took a philosophy class.

That can be good and occasionally has been. I loved both seasons of Loki.

But the JOY of a multiverse for me as an audience member is seeing them as a talent showcase for actors. I don't think I even tired of SyFy's Eureka or CW's Flash's hacky Wells clones hamming it up to let actors try something different.

By and large, Marvel's multiverse has leaned into legacy actors doing encores.

I say if you have a Frank Castle in the multiverse with Power Cosmic and a hellcycle hunting baby Thanos, let Battleworld explode with THAT kind of insanity.

It doesn't always even have to be comics deep cuts. Throw in a Captain America Phil Coulsen or Madisynn Red She-Hulk. Let Justin Hammer ham it up in armor. Take that gag of Jimmy Woo doing card tricks and let Randall Park be a Sorcerer Supreme. Darcy Lewis Thunderstrike? Why not. Katy Chen Iron Fist? Luis from Ant Man as The Thing?

Or use Battleworld to jump to some of the relationships we haven't got. Let Holland's Spider-Man go straight to being Johnny Storm's bestie. Throw Luke Cage and She-Hulk straight into the Fantastic Four. Give us a Storm who's Queen of Wakanda. Let Wolverine and Thing there be poker buddies. Throw in Katie Stuart's Kitty Pryde as Starlord's girlfriend. Let Black Widow and Daredevil be a thing. Throw in the original comics Avengers as a team complete with Pfeiffer and Michael Douglas' likenesses with a Ferrigno Hulk cameo. Give us a David Hasselhoff Nick Fury music video.

But my litmus test is whether they think to get Bernthal to go cosmic. There's a reasonably high profile cosmic Frank Castle to pull and it has the added bonus of being a Ghost Rider that doesn't require us knowing anything about Ghost Rider. Perfect way to rope in a great actor that has no business being in Secret Wars.

I'll be disappointed if we don't see Jon Bernthal as Cosmic Ghost Rider
