Are there any dragon books that don't have oviparous trope?

Satire

I've been enjoying reading books about dragons lately, but it seems that every single book has to shoehorn in the oviparous trope whether it fits the story or not. We can have a great FDC who flies around burninating the countryside and the peasants, eating knights and collecting her hoard, and everyone's having fun, but then what happens? Oviparous trope. Suddenly her life is all about "finding a good place to lay my precious eggs" and "protecting my precious eggs" and "waiting for my precious eggs to hatch". Seriously, how can anybody stand a trope where the protagonist literally sits down and waits for something to happen?

It's disappointing, it's lazy writing and it completely derails the FDC's story arc. How can I believe in the strength and independence of a cool dragon character if I know she's going to get demoted to egg-laying duty as a boring genre staple? It's gotten to the point where I don't even start reading a book if I know it's got oviparous trope in it. I guess it's okay if she only lays her eggs in the epilogue, but it still feels like a step down. Is it too much to ask for my FDC to be NLOD?

Anyway, I just finished {Dragon Slippers series by Jessica Day George}, and I really loved it, especially with in spite of the very important lady dragon with her very important eggs! Can't recommend it highly enough.
