EIN Number Help for my business

I've been trying to get an EIN number for my business for like 3 months now. I tried the online tool on the IRS website and then it said I needed to call for help. I called then the caller said I need to fill out an SS-4 Form. I filled that out an faxed it, and then I got a letter back saying I also need to fax proof of my company. After that I haven't heard anything for like two months. Now i'm trying to call them and they are just leaving me on hold for 2 hours. Anyone know what I should do, or has been through something similar?
