I want this baby, but my boyfriend says it’s him or the pregnancy.
Hi everyone. I’m looking for some outside opinions because I feel completely torn. I found out I was pregnant last Wednesday, and I was honestly over the moon. I’m 23, still in college, but I’ve always wanted to be a mom, and despite my age, I genuinely feel ready for this journey but still scared. The problem is that my boyfriend and I have been fighting badly. We’ve only been together for about three months. While I was asleep, he went through my phone and found old pictures and videos of my ex that I had previously told him I deleted. The truth is, I lied. I couldn’t bring myself to go through that album because that relationship was extremely traumatic for me, and I kept putting it off. It wasn’t because I wanted to keep those memories, it was because I couldn’t mentally handle looking at them. He also found messages between me and my ex from the day before I met him and spent the night with him. There was absolutely nothing after we started dating, and I have never cheated on him, but now he says he feels like I’m a complete stranger and that we rushed into this relationship. The hard part is that just a month ago he was so excited about the pregnancy. We were talking about the baby, making plans, and he seemed genuinely happy. Now everything has completely flipped, and he’s telling me I should get an abortion. He says he doesn’t want to have a baby with someone he feels he doesn’t know. I feel like I’m being forced to choose between my relationship and my baby. I want this baby. I also love my boyfriend and want our relationship to work, but I don’t want to make a decision I’ll regret for the rest of my life just because I’m afraid of losing him. Part of me also feels hurt because he went through my phone while I was sleeping. I understand why he’s upset that I lied about deleting the photos, and I take responsibility for that. But I also can’t stop wondering why my past is suddenly defining our future when I’ve been faithful throughout our relationship. I’m terrified that if I keep the baby, he’ll leave me or resent me forever. But I’m equally terrified that if I get an abortion just to save the relationship, I’ll end up grieving the loss of a baby I truly wanted and what if the relationship doesn’t work out anyway? Has anyone been in a similar situation? If you chose to become a single parent, was it worth it? If you chose your relationship instead, do you regret it? I’m not looking to be judged. I just really need honest perspectives because I feel completely lost and really stressed out right now.
