Hi. I made a burner account for this because I'd rather keep this anonymous. So, ever since late 2019, I have lived in an apartment with my aunt. I came out of a horrible abusive broken home, so I was happy to be free. She already told me in advance she had a job, but this was no big deal, she went to work in an office, I was generally left to my own devices, life was alright. Then COVID hit, and her job was moved to working from home. It was basically a call center job. She did it from her room, roughly from 7AM to 5PM. The walls between my room, which is right next to hers, and hers are fairly thin, so she required me to be quiet, and the range of this was essentially I could not make any noise, limiting my freedoms. Essentially I was banished to the living room until 5, in which I was expected to vacate immediately so she could dominate the living room.
Aside from the texts and give lectures she would give, her main method to tell me to be quiet is to slam her hand into the wall. I should note that I have PTSD from my previous home, and loud noises make me very jumpy, to the point for a long time knocking my door was an issue and caused me to audibly yelp. We regularly got into arguments over the job situation, as well as other stuff. I otherwise put up with the increasing centralization of the house around her job under the unspoken understanding that this "work from home" thing would be reversed once the pandemic was over.
This did not happen. The pandemic ended, but the boss decided it was cheaper to keep the job work from home, so essentially this became the new normal. Tensions between us rose heavily, both over this and other topics. She tends to disregard my complaints out of hand and generally say I'm wrong for feeling the way I do or that I need to suck it up. I've in the past had to make concession after concession for her, and she never has compromised of anything despite me encouraging it. Being stuck in my house all day with her has driven me nuts (for the record my aforementioned PTSD is bad enough that I cannot drive or work, and I have been fighting to get SSI for a long time).
She was eventually laid off around last Autumn, and there was a brief period of peace, things were generally better. About a month ago however she got a new job, and it is both work from home and a call center job, and it doesn't pay much more than the bare basics. The aforementioned problems above are coming back and the noise one is even worse. I understand not everything is ideal and she can't just quit and find another job, especially in this economy, but it feels like she's not understanding of my plight and very hard to approach in general. I'd go into more detail but I do not want to break the character limit. I'm at my wit's end.
AITA?
EDIT: I am going to state this here, to all the people who skim and keep just suggesting I get a job: I cannot drive or work because of my PTSD manifesting in debilitating ways that makes me unemployable and in the case of the car would likely result in a car accident. I WISH I could work, but my mental problems prevent it. Please stop bringing it up.
EDIT 2: The feedback, while not always good, has been sobering. I've had a short talk about what we can do going forward with her. I will accept I am the asshole here, start remembering being rent-free, and try to make things right. Thanks to those who gave constructive feedback, whichever way it went.
