New Cat Advice Needed!
Let me first start by saying Ive had a (now 2yrs and spayed) female calico since she was a kitten named Goulash. She's always been a sweetheart but she's not a fan of the two other cats she's met so far (my grandmother's male cat and the current one I just adopted) I adopted a 4 year old male cat (neutered) yesterday named Carlyle. The first day I brought him home I kept him in my room for a while but he warmed up pretty quick and kept crying to go out and explore. Goulash has a strong dislike for Carlyle. Hissing and swatting from a distance and I wouldn't trust them side by side yet. I put up a baby gate with my bedroom being Carlyle's separated room with all his supplies and such. The thing is he's wandered the house plenty which was my first mistake. I should've kept him in my room directly to let Goulash get used to his scent and take time integrating them more. That's what I did initially until Carlyle kept crying to leave my room. I was excited he wanted to explore and I got ahead of myself. Anyway, Carlyle jumps the fence and wanders the house. When I shut the door he begs to leave. Goulash doesn't jump the fence and keeps her distance but I know she is irritated and overwhelmed with all the new scents and such. Is it too late for any hope of them getting along? Have I ruined the introduction process by overwhelming Goulash? What should I do moving forward?
