Need help with renewal in CA

I have the worst luck ever and sent in my entire renewal application earlier this month and it was rejected because my live scan fingerprints weren’t dark enough. The huge problem is that I flew out to Korea for 8 weeks and won’t be back in the US until after my July 31st expiration date. I asked for an extension with the San Diego LEMSA but they told me to file in my original county of Ventura which only does in person. Do I have to just apply late and redo everything I already completed for renewal? I’m so fucking pissed at the livescan service 😭.
