Already ruined my Kobo... very sad

I just got my first ereader, the Kobo Clara BW, like four days ago. I have a protective case on the outside but I had no idea how fragile the screen was. I threw it in my bag to go to the beach and it got CRAZY scratched. Didn't notice until I got home.

I bought insurance so maybe I can use it for that but I'll have to look into it. If I put a matte screen protector on will that kind of cover it?
