AIO for wanting to confront my boyfriend about his Instagram before introducing him to my family this weekend?
My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 months. Overall, our relationship is good. We say “I love you,” spend a lot of time together, and this weekend I’m introducing him to my entire family, which feels like a big milestone.
The thing that’s been eating at me is his Instagram following. He follows a lot of attractive women, fitness influencers, models, and random girls who mostly post revealing pictures. As far as I know he doesn’t really like their posts anymore, but seeing his following list still gets to me. Every time I look at it, I end up comparing myself to them and feeling like I’m not what he’s actually wants.
Early in our relationship I also found out he added someone on Facebook that he’d previously slept with. Nothing like that has happened since, but I think it made it harder for me to fully trust things, so maybe that’s why this bothers me more than it should.
I’m torn because I don’t want to be controlling or tell him who he can and can’t follow. At the same time, I don’t think it’s healthy that this keeps affecting how I feel about myself.
The reason I’m thinking about bringing it up now is because he’s about to meet my entire family this weekend. Before taking a step like that, I kind of want to know we’re on the same page about our relationship and whether this is something we can talk through.
Am I overreacting for wanting to have this conversation now, or should I just let it go since we’ve only been together for 6 months?
