How do you deal with the professor’s that just talk in lectures?

My history professor only gives us a sheet with an array of key words in the section we study with no definition and nothing else for reference other than a could PowerPoints with related topics. All the classes are just him talking about the subject and asking us some questions and a film related to it. Every test we do has what he said in the lecture but sometimes not directly from the sheet. Everybody says to just take notes but it’s kind of hard when there isn’t a whiteboard or chalkboard or PowerPoint, just him talking to us. What can I do?
