Annoyed with Doctors for delivery
I’m currently 35 weeks pregnant with my long awaited baby. It’s the final stages of preparation and I’m looking for a doctor which will accompany my delivery.
Where I live you can’t bring your own midwife and only one person to the delivery. But when you deliver with a doctor from the hospital they will bring their students, assistants, interns. I’ve been through IVF and more than enough people have already seen my privates. Plus giving birth is a very sensible process. Therefore I only want to be me, the midwife, my doula and a doctor to be present. To make this happen I have to bring my own doctor, which became surprisingly difficult since these doctors have very strict ideas of birth and protocols. Means one is fine with water birth, the other not, one accepts the doula, the other not. One already wants to push for an induction (no medical reason - IVF doesn’t count in my county as medical reason) which I refuse.
Today I met with another doctor which after a lot of asking told me she will be on holidays before and after my estimated date, plus I’m too opinionated, too well informed and a doula will be just in her way. I asked for late clamping and giving the placenta time to deliver. She was pushing the protocol shot of oxytocin on me. Which was new to me but yet another thing to refuse.
I start to ask myself. Are we as mothers are just being looked incubators and “as long as the baby is healthy” everything else including our physical and mental well being is completely neglected by book knowledge men wrote 300 years ago?
