Clothing swaps feel a bit useless
The grounding assumption of "trans clothing swaps" or "gender affirming clothing swaps" is that trans men and trans women can help each other by giving each other the old masculine or feminine clothing they don't want.
I've been to some of these now. But the clothing there often doesn't seem like everyday wear? Although most of it is feminine, the majority doesn't seem to be something I would want to wear on an ordinary day, and also just isn't stuff I'd like anyway. But I can come out with some items nonetheless.
People don't seem to like the button-up shirts or jeans I've donated, either. I'm a bit embarrassed to be the only one donating any vaguely masculine clothing. I feel like it's not bad clothing, I just don't want it.
It doesn't help that the trans people there seem to always fit the worst stereotypes of trans people.
Anyway, it just seems like the underlying assumption here is wrong. They don't want my clothes and I don't want most of theirs.
Or maybe my own underlying assumption was wrong. I had assumed it was some place to swap everyday clothing, but I guess they're some sort of fashion piece event. I often wore button ups prior to transition and not the "dysphoria hoodie" but I guess most trans women are more overtly feminine from the beginning. And likewise, the few trans men I've known never tended to wear remotely feminine clothing in the first place even as kids.
