Chrysalis (Reddit HFY story) inspired determined exterminator nomads
Chrysalis is a pretty awesome story posted in the classics section of r/hfy (link to first chapter: https://www.reddit.com/r/HFY/s/uwTgsTQgeX). Although we cannot emulate a HFY "good ending" in stellaris by ceasing to become a determined exterminator in the end, we can at least live out the power fantasy by being H,WTF??? instead. ;)
Roleplay Setup: machine intelligence, determined exterminator, nomad (civics and traits to your preference). Tl;Dr version of the backstory: Earth was utterly destroyed by an unknown alien race, in a desperate last ditch effort scientists combined an AI with brain scans of humans and hooked it up to enough factory/infrastructure, so if it survived, it could carry some aspect of humanity into the future. The Terran spent decades picking over the remains of earth and assembled a giant space ship it built deep underground (your first arkship) and transferred its intelligence into it and ... launched.
So, we now have a machine intelligence housed in a giant arkship with one mission: revenge upon a galaxy that allowed such a tragedy to occur.
Fun fact, due to a bugged thing right now, every empire you take over spawns a settled vassalized copy of your empire, so you make determined exterminator babies as you conquer civilizations.... it's a parasitic infection! Fun stuff. Also gives you plenty of basic resource support so you don't need to deal with silly things like waylines or logistics or harvesting. Just keep conquering and making babies... damn amusing if I must say so. For extra fun you can ascend virtual or nanite or even modulator according to your taste.
