Your worth recovery !!!
Five and a half years ago, if you told me I'd be living free from illicit opiates, raising my daughter, working a full-time career, paying bills, showing up for life, and actually finding peace some days, I would've laughed in your face.
I was chained to opiates. Every day revolved around pills. Every decision revolved around pills. I wasn't living—I was surviving. I spent years believing I was too far gone, too broken, and too damaged to ever have a real life again.
Today, that's no longer my story.
Has recovery been perfect? Not even close.
I still deal with chronic pain. I've had surgeries. I live with anxiety. I face challenges that would make it easy to justify going back out. There are still days when addiction whispers lies into my ear. There are even nights when I dream about using. Recovery didn't magically remove every problem from my life.
I'm also honest about the fact that I use medical cannabis under a doctor's care for anxiety. Traditional anxiety medications weren't a good fit for me and left me feeling disconnected and unable to function the way I wanted to. I'm not recommending anything to anyone else—I'm simply sharing my experience. Recovery looks different for different people, and this is what has worked for me while staying away from the drugs that nearly destroyed my life.
What recovery did give me was a chance.
A chance to become a father my daughter can be proud of.
A chance to look in the mirror without hating the person staring back at me.
A chance to rebuild relationships, repair damage, and become someone I never thought I could be.
The biggest thing I've learned is this: you don't have to stay clean forever. You just have to stay clean today.
When I first got clean, the idea of five years seemed impossible. I couldn't imagine five days. I had to learn to focus on the next right decision, then another, then another.
If you're reading this and you're still suffering, still trapped, still waking up sick and wondering if you'll ever get out, please hear me:
You are not beyond help.
You are not too damaged.
You are not too far gone.
I've watched people come back from situations that looked hopeless. I've watched people rebuild families, careers, and self-respect after losing everything.
The addict in us loves to tell us we're different—that recovery works for everyone else but not us. That's a lie.
If I can do this, so can you.
Reach out. Ask for help. Go to a meeting. Call somebody. Be honest about where you're at.
You don't have to fight this battle alone anymore.
There is a life waiting for you on the other side of addiction. A real life. A life with purpose, peace, and freedom.
Today I have a relationship with God as I understand Him. I'm a father. I'm present. I'm trusted. I'm free from the obsession that once controlled every part of my life.
Don't quit before the miracle happens.
Just stay clean today
