Turned down Wii remote volume but only working for one controller?

Just bought a Wii from TooManyGames the other day and running some Just Dance 4 with the lady. Immediately turned down this insufferable internal speaker on the remote but for some reason when I use our second remote the volume is still cranking on it. It’s borderline ruining my experience it’s just playin the Just Dance songs loud as hell through it. Everytime I open the Wii remote settings for either controller it’s telling me the volume is all the way down. Any help would be amazing.
