Winter, Like a Wasp
I watch them fall slowly, perfectly to the ground
As they land, they make not the hint of a sound
I breathe in the icy air, bittersweet as it enters my lungs
But in the still and the quiet
I breathe in once more
This time it's too late as I've been stung
Winter like a wasp so beautiful, yet contrite
She leaves us frail, she leaves us far apart
You and I forced to walk away with bandaged hearts
The petals of a Winter rose wither as the breeze carries them away
Let me fall asleep, and in dreams of dark snow I'll awake
I still remember the beauty concealed within your face
With eyes the color of December and lace
They pierce the heart while leaving nothing, not even a trace
Of the blackness, of the attractiveness
From lips that secrete the sweet taste of November rain
Yet turn blue in the first snowfall with a subtle refrain
So take my heart and keep it in chains
Keep it locked up and forever there, it shall remain
For this love burned as a white hot flame
And a love that falls apart is one that can never again be the same
If I could, I would
Be your everything
To have & to hold
Lost in time and after we've grown old
But I'm hidden within December's end
And I've sunken into the cracks again
