Why do people rotate between rough pleasure and softer pleasure?

I know it may sound odd to ask, but for some reason at times I will enjoy having incredibly rough sex, while other times, i can’t stand it.

Or ill enjoy being fingered with numerous fingers and then other times barely be able to stand one.

Is it just fluctuating sex drive or?
