ChatGPT isn't the whole AI story anymore

[Opinion]

I've noticed a lot of the conversations here are about ChatGPT getting worse, becoming inconsistent, or just not being as useful as it used to be.

Whether you agree with that or not, writing an article on where AI is heading made me realize something.

We've all become so focused on ChatGPT that it's easy to forget AI has been moving in a much bigger direction.

Companies aren't just building better chatbots anymore. They're building AI that can search company documents before answering (RAG), work with files and images, and even complete multi-step tasks through AI agents.

Ironically, I think this is part of why ChatGPT sometimes feels frustrating. A lot of expectations are being placed on a chat interface when the industry is already moving toward AI that's connected to other tools instead of living inside one conversation.

That doesn't excuse the issues people bring up here. Hallucinations, inconsistent responses, memory problems, and changing behavior are all real complaints.

But it does make me wonder if we're judging tomorrow's AI based on yesterday's interface.

I wrote an article about how AI has evolved beyond ChatGPT if anyone's interested:

Do you think ChatGPT itself will remain the main way people use AI, or will most of us end up interacting with AI through other apps and services without even thinking about it?
